A Geeked Out Day Off

Thursday I had a day off and it was rainy and overall gross, so I decided that I would pretty much just geek out for the day.

I started out with The Incredible Hulk on TMN, a grown man laying in bed watching a comic book movie in the middle of the afternoon is a little geeky I think. There are two huge monsters, a Stan Lee cameo and a pretty girl in love… with a monster.  I also love the quick Tony Stark appearance at the end of the flick.  Genius.

After the movie, and a short nap (it was my day off after all) I decided to put some Veronica Mars in the DVD player. Now, perhaps Veronica Mars isn’t the geekiest of TV shows, but I certainly geek out about it. I love the witty, sexy, hilarious, pop-culture reference filled show that so many people guest starred in. There was Kevin Smith, Alyson Hannigan, Charisma Carpenter, Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Zachery Ty Bryan among others. I put in the first disc and hit “play all” and loved every minute of it. You would too I bet. And knowing who killed Lilly Kane doesn’t take anything away from it.

Side note: As I sit here and write this piece Ms. Kristen Bell is playing Zoe in Fanboys (2008) on the PC beside me. I lurve her. I geek out for her.

During and after the movie I decided to pull my copy of Quiver off of the shelf and shake the dust off of it. I love Kevin Smith, so loving his take on the Green Arrow is easy. The trade copy of the start of Kevin Smith’s run (1-10) makes me smile and drew me in again right away. I love that although I am reading the trade for Oliver Queen I get to see Superman and Batman along with The Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Black Canary and more of the DC gang.

All of this leads me to my question of the weekend. What do you do to geek out? Is video games, comics, movies, music, TV, let us know, share with the world, don’t be afraid, we’re all geeks here.

Remember that scene from Big? Of course you do. Why would I even say that?

This is so much cooler than that movie. And that movie was pretty cool.

Video: Video board games

Personally, I love Wii Monopoly. I’ve gotten together will some friends to play it on several occasions and we’ve always had a blast. Though that may speak more about the friends than the virtual board game.

What do you think?

Everything’s better with zombies

ppaz“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains will be in want of more brains.”
With the recent release of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance – Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem!
I got to thinking about how zombies can improve so many stories. In fact, prime time television is absolutely crying out for some undead talent to add new storytelling dimensions to already established shows.

Here are just a few suggestions:

Dancing with the Stars and Zombies
What a unique challenge; to dance when you have no flexibility whatsoever. Any show of flourish will be awe inspiring. Not to mention the added incentive for their dance partners to keep moving lest they get their brains eaten.

Kings and Zombies
What retelling of a famous bible story wouldn’t benefit from a zombie army. Silas wouldn’t be usurped by the annoying little David guy with legions of the undead at his command. Besides doesn’t Ian McShane seems like he was born to raise the dead?
